“PRIVATE RAYMOND MA”

During WWI, an idealistic Chinese Canadian young man goes to great lengths to enlist in the Canadian army, hoping that such an act would help his folks back home gain some social status.

However, when he’s hurled into the brutal battlegrounds of the Western Front, he finds it difficult to maintain his ideals and self-assurance.

As he struggles to live through gruesome gas warfare and trench battles, he slowly finds his feet. Unexpectedly, he encounters both friendship and love, and realizes that his fellow Canadian soldiers are just like him – they’ve all came to fight with something to prove.
